So, it wasn’t quite like this.
Today I received a package of bike and riding parts from Nashbar.com. Until today, I have been riding with flat petals, which are just fine for casual riding, but for the triathlon, you need something that allows you to generate energy on the upstroke, in addition to the downstroke. The solution is a pedal that allows you snap your shoes into the pedal. This isn’t just a cage to slide your foot into; the pedals have a part that screws into your shoes and then clips into the actual petal.
It’s a bit different when you can’t just pull your foot off the pedal. I started in the laundry room, figuring I would hold onto the door frame to steady myself. That was fall number one. Two was in the dining room, using the same, failed, logic. Then I took the show outside, where I promptly fell into the bushes. Maybe tomorrow will be a little more successful…
