GoodbyeMinimallyAdequate.com

A friend just sent me a Facebook Group request to join a movement to amend the South Carolina constitution.  The constitution requires that the state provide a “minimally adequate” education to students in public schools.  This group endeavors to have this changed to require “a high quality education, allowing every student to reach their highest potential.”  I like it.

South Carolina is being hammered by the current economic crisis.  Currently, we have the fourth highest unemployment rate in the nation.  Our high school graduation rate, while not the lowest in the US, is embarrassing.

Now, I don’t believe that these issues can be solved by a simple amendment to the constitution.  It’s a first step.  It’s hard to improve education in SC when you only have to provide a “minimally adequate” education.
