For those of you new to the nonprofit blog arena, I thought it would be nice to create a annotated bibliography, of sorts, featuring some of the power players in the nonprofit blogging sector.
Beth Kanter:
I am not alone in considering Beth the First Lady of nonprofit blogging and social media engagement. Beth’s blog is the go to resource for information about how nonprofits can use social media to increase their reach, improve their connection with individuals, and leverage the power of social media to advance their programs.
Sean Stannard-Stockton
Sean’s blog, Tactical Philanthropy, is an excellent resource for nonprofit managers and development professionals. Sean focuses on the expectations of today’s donors and provides advice to help meet and exceed these expectations.
Emily Weinberg
Emily is the author and editor of two blogs that nonprofits will find very useful. I first located the blog she edits while reading Beth Kanter’s blog. Emily currently edits and compiles the NonProfit Blog Exchange. The exchange is a great resource to find new writers in your sector and to read what other bloggers have to say about the resources. Emily also has a personal blog, Emily’s World, that is also related to the nonprofit world. It’s been a little while since I’ve seen an update from her, but go ahead and subscribe to her RSS feed: I promise it’ll be worth your time.
Katya Andresen
Katya works for Network for Good, located in my old home of Bethesda, MD. Network for Good is a great service that allows nonprofits to accept donations online without investment or hassle. Katya’s NonProfit Marketing Blog is just that. I enjoy the blog simply because Katya peppers her stories with real life experience and examples from outside the nonprofit sector. I have only been reading her blog for a while, but I am very excited to see a new post in my feed reader.
Allan Benamer:
Alan is the ED at SocialMarkets.org and the author of the Non-Profit Tech Blog. Allan has extensive IT/Tech experience, having been around since before the bubble. Be prepared for pretty nerdy, but approachable, posts. This site is an excellent resource, but requires an understanding of tech issues before it will be too helpful.
I hope to do an update on this post, or a series of other notes on nonprofit blogs from time to time. If you’d like me to include your blog, please drop me an email or leave a quick comment.
