63 Miles Later…

by Eric H. Doss on 3 May 2009

I survived.  That’s about the most important thing to report.  The weather was great: sunny with a few clouds, not too hot, a slight breeze.  Overall great.  Since this was the first long distance ride, I don’t have much to compare it too.  The volunteers were great, the rest stops well spaced and well stocked.  The Sag Wagon was ever-present, thankfully, not needed on my part…  Only grabbed a few pics:

Picking Vidalia Onions

I learned a few things this weekend.  First, it is possible for me to ride 63 miles.  Second, onions grow mostly above the ground.  Who knew?

It took us about 5 hours total, including stops.  My bike computer showed 4 hours and a few minutes for the ride.  I don’t think 15mph for four hours is bad, especially for my first ride.

There’s absolutely no way I am going to get on the bike for more than 63 miles.  There were a few folks doing a full century, 100 miles and just a couple that did the Double Metric, 125 miles.  Unbelievable.  63 is extreme enough for me.
