A few weeks ago, I posted an article about the usefulness of Twitter as it related to the fight at Beaufort High School.
Today, I noticed another great possibility. About 3:30 today, I headed to the YMCA for a training swim for my next triathlon. The sky was dark and getting stormy, but I hoped to squeeze in at least 1500M before getting kicked out due to thunder. No such luck. No sooner had I stepped under the shower did the thunder break and the lifeguards shut the whole thing down quickly.
Now, the Beaufort YMCA closes the pool in half hour increments during these storms. Every thunderclap resets the half hour clock. So, how helpful would it be to have a Twitter page for the Y, or maybe just for the pool. There’s always an employee at the front desk/computer. It wouldn’t be too hard to have them tweet the reopening time, or the notice that the pool’s close.
When this happens, I generally wait until the storm passes, then give them a call before heading back down to the pool. That takes time. If they set up a Twitter account and posted the information, it’d save them the time involved in talking to me at least.
Of course, this isn’t a revolutionary idea, but still…
