Beaufort, SC: Attracting the Creative Class

by Eric H. Doss on 28 August 2009

Glad to know that I’m not the only knowledge worker in Beaufort, SC.  The other day there was an article in the local paper about efforts underway to attract other knowledge workers, or the creative class, to Beaufort.  The article is online in a few places, but the original is here.

The article has a link to an interesting event coming up in Port Royal called Pecha Kucha.  The link’s incorrect, so if you’re looking for info on the Pecha Kucha event in Beaufort, you can click here.

This seems like a great idea, Beaufort could easily become a hub for knowledge workers: Low cost of living, reasonably close to larger cities and transportation, and it’s beautiful.  I left a comment on the site’s forum about some of the challenges knowledge workers will probably face here, but none of them are insurmountable.

as a creative person in beaufort. I can see this as a great way for Beaufort’s economy to grow but I just wonder what specific industries we should go after? It need to be something that is easy for telecommuting, and reaches outside of Beaufort. But I think creative, marketing, and design are all things that would be a great direction for Beaufort to go.
p.s. I like the layout and style of your blog.
