I survived my first open water swim… Met up with a few folks that will be at Hartsville next weekend. Walked a few hundred meters to the bridge, hopped in with shoes on (just in case there are any oyster beds), swam for about an hour and didn’t die. You can see the map here:

Great swim: the salt water made a huge difference in buoyancy and so did the running shoes. I didn’t get off course, which was my main concern. I’ve always been comfortable in the water, so my main worry was veering off course and adding significant time to my swim. I think I did pretty well, all things considered.
The walk back was a huge pain, literally. Thousands of mosquitos dined on us on the way back; Heather says I look like I have hives.
As the case may be, I think, swim-wise, I’m ready for next week.
