Google Buzz

by Eric H. Doss on 9 February 2010

Ok, autofollow is pretty cool.

I like the rich media sharing too.

But, I’m curious about the usefulness if it’s a separate tab.  I mean, honestly, I’m running out of screen real estate.  If it’s not integrated into my inbox, I mean directly, not on a separate tag.

Some of this stuff looks a lot like Posterous, which I’ve been using for quite a while.

UPDATES:

1.  Public and private sharing-NICE. Instant indexing to Google’s Social Web.

2.  Also like the google contact integration.  Really like the @reply auto resolve.

3.  Just the good stuff?  Recommended Buzz–Maybe an extension of Cool Via Recommendations RSS Feed?

4.  So you have user feedback into the recommendation engine?  Pretty awesome.

5.  Whoa–Mobile integration–Holy Hell–>Check in maybe?  With auto guess of your location!!

I’ve never been a Facebook/Twitter user, so Buzz may not impact my life…or it may be enough to push me into that phase. Could actually end up helping Facebook/Twitter as it gets more users to adopt it.

If you had to take a guess, what percentage of Gmail users do you think will actively use Buzz once it’s gained some traction?

You know, there’s no telling. I think it’s going to be widely adopted by Gmail users, but I can’t guess a number. Most Gmail users are pretty comfortable working with beta technologies, and are a bit forgiving of quirks and issues.
I do think it’ll have to be more tightly integrated into the Gmail process. I’d like to see the ability to add an email to Buzz, not just a Buzz to email.
At the end of the day, it’s a roll out of Wave-like technology in an attempt to get people more comfortable with the features of Wave, ultimately to migrate folks over to Wave.

The reaction to Google Buzz has been very interesting to watch. I don’t think Google could have foreseen the negative ‘buzz’ that it has created about privacy, etc. I think it’s struggling out of the gate but we’ll just have to wait and see.

I heard that google will buy twitter and google buzz will be more powerful soon. Maybe I’m wrong but this is a solution for Google to increase their Buzz

I think Buzz has a great potential for Google Apps users. We at work are pretty heavy on Google Apps and usually come across situation where you would like to share info but in secure and closed fashion. Google Buzz addresses that very well.

And thanks for a wonderful post.
