Non-Profits

My interest in non-profits first started in 2002 when I became the Class Chairman for The Citadel Foundation. My wife currently works for a small non-profit in DC, The Dinner Program for Homeless Women. I first became involved with DPHW before my wife started working there.  I first became involved at DPHW in 2005.  My company, LexisNexis, encourages it’s employees to become involved in the local community.  To this end, LexisNexis provides two paid ‘volunteer’ days to every employee.  I located DPHW by searching for a direct service provider.  While there are many excellent opportunities to volunteer in DC and Maryland, there is nothing quite like providing a direct service to some of the most under-served among us.

Soon after Heather began working with DPHW, I became intrigued by the non-profit business model. Specifically, I am very interested in using for-profit business practices to improve the service and efficiency of non-profits. In my case, this interest takes the form of using modern technologies to improve the operations of non-profits. One of the blogs I link to, at right, is written by a consultant that uses Web 2.0 technologies to assist non-profits.
