In my family, reading was the answer to most problems. Bored? Read a book. Curious? Read a book. Upset? There’s probably a book for that. Feeling empty? Go to the library.
Looking back, I can’t measure how important the gift of reading is in my life. Though technology now means that I’m not just limited to reading, I can download, watch, and listen in addition to reading, the lesson that knowledge is accessible shaped my life. Before I even what an autodidact was, my family planted the seeds of lifelong learning.
My understanding of leadership was refined at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where I completed a Bachelors in History. I was a graduate teaching assistant at Clemson University, where I finished my first Masters degree. After nearly a decade in various roles, I returned to graduate school at Gonzaga University, finishing my MA in Organizational Leadership with a focus on Servant Leadership.
I have taught in classrooms and online for a local college, trained and coached small businesses and leaders, owned a marketing consultancy, and designed training programs for departments, divisions, and medium-sized companies.
Drawing on my experience in public, private, and nonprofit organizations, I realized that organizational health is a vital component of success and that health must be pervasive throughout the organization, not just at the highest levels.
